Present life with Jiva-Nature has Prakruti and that Prakruti means duality and Gunas (innate qualities). Duality means pair of Gunas that are opposite to each other e.g Happiness-misery, light-darkness, sin-credit (punya), good intention-bad intention etc. Gunas means Satwa, Rajas and Tamas. There is always conflict because of such arrangement of Prakruti. When there is conflict, human beings think and try to understand it. When there is easy, peaceful and happy circumstances human beings never think about it. When there are incidents causing conflicts, lack of peace in mind, obstacles, puzzles, questions etc, arise in the life of human being because of duality, human mind tends to look for the solution of these problems. Human beings may have thought, 'Is not it nice if human being's mind and other internal senses stayed completely fresh, balanced, peaceful, equanimous and stayed just as a witness during all these conflicts?' Human beings have tried many experiments to find the solution of this problems and living life peacefully. During the different times in past, they have carried out series of attempts to find the solution but there is no historical records.
